The Transportation Department

HRPDC's Transportation Department provides technical support to the member municipalities regarding transportation and emergency management needs in Hampton Roads. Performing a variety of analyses and program development services, the Department produces information concerning transportation issues of regional importance to assist local elected officials and Chief Administrative Officers (CAO) in their efforts to improve the regions quality of life. The Department has a wide variety of transportation data available for individuals, groups or organizations. 

The Department also coordinates the Regional Emergency Management Technical Advisory Committee and serves as a resource to foster and support regional strategies that complement existing local emergency preparedness programs.

The Transportation Department:

  • Develops programs including Long Range Planning, Congestion Management System, Intelligent Transportation System, Transportation Improvement Program, Air Quality, and Transportation Public Participation Plan

  • Conducts studies of transportation needs/financial issues, major corridors, major intersections and impacts of major development

  • Performs travel time studies and traffic counts
